Font Compatibility Chart

A fancy font is not a font. Each style swaps your letters for Unicode characters that look like cursive, bold or bubble letters, and the phone that shows your text draws them with the fonts it already has. When none of its fonts has a drawing for a character, it shows an empty box (people call it tofu) or a question mark instead.

Instagram, TikTok and Discord do not bring their own fonts for these characters, so what people see depends on their device. That is why a bio can look perfect on your iPhone and broken on an older Android phone or a Windows laptop.

• Shows: every letter appears as intended.
• Gaps or emoji: it shows, but some letters fall back to a plainer look, turn into color emoji (the 🅰︎ 🅱︎ 🅾︎ 🅿︎ of Black Squared) or get cut.
• May show as boxes: letters borrowed from other alphabets, such as Cherokee or Japanese. Current phones draw most of them; older phones and some apps do not.
• Boxes or removed: the platform has no font for it, or strips it. Game name filters remove the combining marks behind strikethrough, underline and glitch text.

The ratings are our reading of each platform's built-in fonts and filters, and the same data decides which styles the generator shows first. TikTok draws these characters with the phone's own fonts, so its column is the worse of iPhone and Android. Each game has its own name filter, so the Games column is a rule of thumb and does not count toward a style's group; the game pages give each game's rules.

1. Pick a style from the Stable group for your name and bio.
2. Use Partial and Unstable styles for a word or two of decoration, not the whole bio.
3. Keep your @username plain: usernames take only letters, numbers and a few marks.
4. After you paste, open your profile on a friend's phone to see what others see.
